About Prodiatera
-
Prodiatera is a non-profit charity acting to eradicate
breast cancer through prophylaxis, education, screening as
well as the creation of educational training programs for
medical personnel countrywide.
-
Prodiatera
was established in 2001.
The organization was inspired by
Amberheart,
a Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation,
and has continued
its ideas and
program in Poland,
-
Based on the expertise of its members, in
cooperation with Amberheart , we have developed and
introduced in Poland a countrywide, regionally addressed
breast cancer screening program employing local nurses.
Prodiatera cooperates with Polish women's and cancer
advocacy groups and is also active internationally.
-
The ultimate goal of the organization is
develop international standards for educational programs,
addressed both to the medical profession and to women at
large as part of a cost effective breast cancer preventive
program leading to the decrease of incidence, mortality and
morbidity of the disease. Prodiatera strives to introduce
these programs as a part of women's healthcare programmes.
-
At present, Prodiatera is the only
organization in Poland and one of few in the world that
possesses a comprehensive integrated breast cancer
prophylaxis program based on mid-level medical personnel,
which can specifically attend to large numbers of women,
both in large cities and more importantly in small towns and
villages,
which have been hereto underprivileged as far as health care
is concerned.
-
At present, Prodiatera is
also involved in research and development
programs
-
As part of its program, from fall 2001 until
autumn 2004, Prodiatera published 85,000 educational
brochures and 50,000 pamphlets, trained 200 midwives and
nurses as well as 22 breast health instructors from Poland,
and utilizing the knowledge of the trained nurses, has
surveyed and performed prophylactic examinations more than 13,000
women in Poland, and has made possible the effectuation of
4,600 free mammographies.
-
Most of the nurses trained by Prodiatera, as
well as an additional group of 150 nurses and 20 doctors
from various specializations are current members of
Prodiatera.
